What is Emergency Management?
Emergency Management is a coordinated effort involving local, State and Federal government agencies, as well as volunteer organizations and businesses, assisting the citizens and their communities in preparing for, responding to, recovering from and eliminating or reducing the effects of natural, man-made, and technological emergencies and disasters. The primary goal of Emergency Management is to prevent injuries, protect lives and reduce property and environmental damage in Atchison County.
Responsibilities
- Administers Local Emergency Planning Committee
- Develops and Maintains Emergency Operations Plan
- Supervises the Emergency Operations Center
- Supervises the Severe Weather Coordination

Atchison County requires anyone wanting to burn to have a Burn Permit. To obtain your Burn Permit, you may obtain it in person at the Atchison County Sheriff's Office or call 913-367-4323.
